February Trustee Meeting Recap
The Linfield Board of Trustees accomplished much at their February meeting. The board meets three times per year -- in February, May and November -- to review the current programs and policies and plan for the future.
The board focused on economic issues, including the 2009-10 budget and fund raising during challenging times. Their continuing fund raising priorities are the renovation of Northup Hall, endowed faculty positions and support for student scholarships. Board members also pledged their 100 percent participation in giving to support these projects as well as unrestricted giving.
The Linfield community may be interested to learn the board approved new names for the college-owned apartments: “Green Apartments” will become “Blaine Street Apartments,” “White Apartments” will be labeled “College Avenue Apartments” and “Red Apartments” will be called “The 540 Quad.” An identity theft prevention policy, required by the federal government, was approved. Fred Ross, senior advisor to the President, will chair a task force to discuss opportunities and needs in the Division of Continuing Education.
Glenna Kruger ’68 announced that this will be her final year as chair of the board. The May meeting of the board will mark Kruger’s last meeting as chair, though she has two years remaining in her term as a trustee and will continue to serve in that capacity. “I have enjoyed working with Glenna, and I am deeply grateful for her service to the college and to the Board,” said President Thomas L. Hellie. The Committee on Trustees nominated Dave Haugeberg, vice chair, as the next board chair and an election will be held in May. Haugeberg, a prominent McMinnville attorney, has been a Linfield College Trustee since 1982 and has served as secretary of the board. “Dave is a fine man and a very loyal supporter of Linfield College,” Hellie said.
