Sharing the parent perspective
Greg and Lori Cody, parents of Aaron Cody ’10, joined the Parents Council Leadership Team in 2007. Linfield is a family tradition for the Cody family. Aaron is following in the footsteps of alumni including his dad, grandparents, great-grandmother, and many aunts and uncles as well! We asked Greg and Lori to reflect about Aaron’s experience at Linfield.
What about the Linfield experience has been most satisfying to Aaron and to you?
Aaron would say that it is the rich social community such a small college has to offer. Speaking as the parent of a student attending Linfield, I have observed the depth and richness of the “Linfield Experience” through the eyes of my son. Linfield offers an opportunity for students to plunge in and experience different perspectives on the world other than their own. The diverse backgrounds and philosophies all produce an “idea” rich culture on the Linfield campus.
What changes have you observed in him since he’s been a student here?
Aaron’s world has expanded and his conversations with us reflect that. His view of himself and how he relates to his world has broadened. His identity has grown more solid and he is much more aware of his strengths and his direction. Linfield has provided him with so many, many opportunities to put his talents to use, and to find new talents.
What are his long-term plans? Have they changed during his time as a student?
Aaron’s long-term plan is to go into the web design field. Originally Aaron was interested in mass media page design, then broadcast production, and then finally came to web design.
What are your thoughts and feelings as you see him growing up?
We always comment that each time Aaron comes home for a school break he looks, acts and sounds more mature. That’s what we want for him, to become an independent man.
What have been the benefits of your connections with other Linfield parents?
Connecting with other Linfield parents creates that sense of community that the Linfield campus offers.
Are you a Linfield parent? What is your perspective on Linfield people or experiences that have changed your student?
