Homecoming highlights recapped
Despite dismal weather, record crowds turned out to celebrate Homecoming. The Wildcats shut out longtime rival Pacific Luthern, much to the chagrin of Mark Petersen, McMinnville resident and PLU alumnus. Alumni, family and friends celebrated the accomplishments of alumni award winners. Mark your calendars now for Homecoming 2008, Oct. 10-11.
Speed networking connects professionals
Do you enjoy doing business with other alumni? Are you looking for a realtor? Mortgage broker? Financial analyst? Are you hiring or hoping to be hired? Come to Speed Networking and interact with other professionals who share your connection to Linfield. This is an efficient, stress-free way to build a professional network. Join us for a fun and beneficial event.
Tender care for the Old Oak
The Old Oak, germinated before the first settlers entered the Willamette Valley and one of the most recognized landmarks at Linfield College, is in decline. Although the tree, an Oregon White Oak thought to be 200-250 years old, has been in poor health for years, a recent infestation by carpenter worms is adding to its distress. Plans call for the installation of a decorative barrier surrounding the tree to protect people from falling limbs. New cables and a support pole will be added to stablize weakened branches and a series of light prunings is scheduled.
The senior bench has rested beneath the canopy of the Old Oak for decades, chronicling the sentiments of each senior class as they decorate it before they leave.
Leave your mark on Linfield campus
To commemorate our 150th anniversary, Linfield will install a new Sesquicentennial Plaza in front of Walker Hall, a courtyard of bricks that will bear the names of donors and the individuals they choose to honor. Bricks ordered by Dec. 31 will be installed in time for the plaza's dedication on May 10. Orders may be placed until June 30, 2008. President's Circle bricks, measuring 8x8 inches, recognize gifts of $1,500 or more. Smaller bricks, measuring 4x8 inches, are available for $150 each. For more information and to order your brick, visit our website.
Surveying Linfield traditions
Since 2008 is Linfield's Sesquicentennial, thoughts turn to the traditions and stories of the past. What were the best traditions while you were a student? How have the urban legends changed through the years? Share your memories with our brief survey. To see the results from the athletic survey, visit our website.
Order "Inspired Pragmatism" from the Linfield Bookstore
"Inspired Pragmatsim: An Illustrated History of Linfield College," the story of Linfield College from its origins to the eve of its sesquicentennial celebration on January 30, 2008, will be available in November exclusively from the Linfield College bookstore. The book, written by Marvin Henberg, professor of philosophy who also served as interim president and vice president of academic affairs/dean of faculty, tells the story of the many men and women who have not only shaped Linfield, but played important roles in Oregon, the Northwest and the nation. Henberg will present a reading and booksigning Thursday, Dec. 6, at 7:30p.m. in the Austin Reading Room of the Jereld R. Nicholson Library.
Alumni plan travel to Ireland
Join Linfield alumni for "Cead mile failte," an Irish greeting meaning 100,000 welcomes, in June when they take in the splendors of the Irish and Scottish countrysides. Experience the rugged natural beauty of Donegal and Glenveagh National Park. Enjoy a scenic cruise on beautiful Loch Lomond and see its numerous islands. Visit Iona Abbey, where the Book of Kells was produced, and where many early kings from Scotland and Ireland are buried. Other sites include Dublin, Bundoran, Derry, Belfast, Edinburgh, Oban and Drymen. For more information visit our website.
Wildcat hoopsters set reunion date
Former Linfield basketball players and coaches are invited to campus for a reunion. Join us Saturday, Jan. 5, for a walk of honor, women's and men's games against Whitman , and a chance to socialize and reconnect.
Cat Chat -- Keeping Wildcats connected
Join the chatter in Linfield's online community. The semester is nearly over and students are beginning to work on final papers. When you were a student, where did you study? Visit our message board and share tips for great student spots. Post your homecoming photos or if you were unable to attend, check out the photo gallery to see what you missed. The first 20 people to add messages or photos will be entered to win a $25 gift certificate to the bookstore. Congratulations to Ryan Adams '00, the winner from the last E-cat.
Lemon brothers team up with Wildcats
For the first time in Linfield College history, the Wildcats have four brothers competing on a team at once. Four Lemon brothers -- Chet '08, Chase '10, Bubba '10, and Mychal '11 -- are playing for the football team while their father, George Lemon, serves as an assistant coach and assistant director of campus safety. The Lemons' situation is so unique that reporters from ESPN's College "Game Day" program profiled the family during a three-day visit during Homecoming. The Lemons are no strangers to the limelight. Their grandfather, Meadowlark Lemon, played basketball for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Catch up with a few Linfield ladies
They call themselves the Linfield Old Ladies, a group of women who spent much of their careers at the college. Now retirees, they meet once a month to catch up and share news of other former Linfield friends. Between them, they have accumulated more than two centuries of stories, memories, relationships, and service to Linfield College. The group includes Norma Cochran, Lois Welton, Margaret Macaulay, Phyllis Smith, Edith "Duffy" Reynolds, Charlotte Filer, Dorothy Pullen, Vera Sullivan, Sherry Dulaney and Judy Johnson.
