Inauguration Plans

Dr. Thomas L. Hellie will be inaugurated as the 19th president of Linfield College on Friday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium.  A week-long series of programs and activities celebrating Linfield College will be held in conjunction with the inauguration.  The programs will center around the theme "Educating Global Citizens" and will include academic symposia, presentations and musical tributes.  The featured event will be a lecture by Tracy Kidder, author of "Mountains Beyond Mountains," on Thursday, March 1 at 7:30p.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium.  All inaugural events are free and open to the public.

Alumni Scholarship to Assist Legacy Students

Future generations of Linfield College Legacy students have a specific scholarship targeted just for them.  Although Linfield has had an alumni scholarship for many years, the Alumni Leadership Council recently voted to change the criteria.  The scholarship is now specifically designed to benefit children, grandchildren, or siblings of alumni.  Want to contribute to the fund?  Visit our website.

New Music Facilities Open at Linfield

Music has been an important part of life at Linfield for most of its history.  And this year, music sounds even sweeter with the opening of the new facilities on campus.  A new home for the Music Department and a major renovation have created spaces that are a joy for students, professors, audience members and performers alike.  Browse images of the new Vivian A. Bull Music Center and the newly renovated and recently dedicated Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium at our website.

Linfield Alumna Featured in National Publication

When Susan Hyde '00 was in the market for a job this fall, an Internet blog followed her every move before she accepted a position on the political science faculty at Yale University.  Hyde's experience, along with her photo, was included in "Who's Hot?  WHo's Not?" a story about online rumor mills and faculty job searches in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Holiday Cheer for Local Alumni

Join Linfield alumni, parents and friends for some holiday cheer on Wednesday, December 13 beginning at 5:30p.m.  We will gather at Fernando's Hideaway in Portland, owned by Linfield alumnus Lorrie Reierson '80, to celebrate the season with good food and good cheer.

Volleyball Team Competes in Regionals

For the fourth time in six years, the Linfield volleyball team has advanced to the regional playoffs.  Under the leadership of longtime coach Shane Kimura, the Linfield Wildcats headed to southern California to compete in the NCAA Division III West Regional, hosted by the University of La Verne.  For more on Wildcat athletics, visit our website.

Linfield Partners with Kaplan

Have you ever considered returning to school?  To do so you may need to take the GRE, the GMAT, the MCAT, or the LSAT.  Now, with Linfield's partnership with Kaplan test preparation you can prepare for those exams at a reduced rate because of your status as a Linfield alum.  Alumni who access the Kaplan services via our Linfield benefits page will receive a substantial discount.

Where Are They Now?

Though retired from Linfield since 1993, two emeritus professors can still be found at many campus events.  Craig Singletary, professor emeritus of communication, and Levi Carlile, professor emeritus of economics, have remained very active at Linfield and in the McMinnville community.  Catch up with them at our website.

Ron Mills Artwork Unveiled

Two pieces of artwork by Ron Mills, professor of art, were unveiled and dedicated November 1 in Melrose Hall.  Mills donated the paintings to the college.   "Brinded Arc" and "Rampant Arc" now hang in the foyer of the newly renovated Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall.  The two arches deliberately echo the entryways to the auditorium and reflect the artist's special affinity for the arc form as congenial to the layered complexity of his style, with its open invitation to viewers to exercise their imaginations in response to his imagery.  Among the more striking elements of the project has been its speed of conceptualization and execution: Mills began working in late summer and has been painting intensively ever since.  To read the artist's notes and view the finished pieces, as well as photos of the work in progress, visit his website.

Got News?

Have you changed jobs?  Received a promotion?  Returned to school?  Received another degree?  Did you get married or have a child in the last twelve months?  If you have news for your classmates and other Linfield friends, share it here.  Is there another university or college in your life?  In an effort to update our database, as well as keep abreast of your achievements, we'd like to know if you have completed post-Linfield studies at graduate schools, vocational programs, or other types of institutions.  Please email that information to Kurstin Finch Gnehm '97, assistant director of advancement services at kfinchg@linfield.edu.
